Lips, in particular, have become a focal point in the beauty industry, drawing attention in various forms, from fillers to makeup techniques. Among these, lip blushing is quickly gaining popularity, heralded as a way to simplify and streamline your makeup routine while maintaining a low-maintenance approach. Beyond convenience, lip blushing also offers the enticing benefit of creating the appearance of fuller, more vibrant lips—without the need for deep injectable treatments.

WHAT IS LIP BLUSHING?

Lip blushing is a cosmetic procedure that uses tattooing to imbue the lips with a subtle and natural hue, creating the appearance of fuller, more vibrant lips. Like microblading and other PMU procedures, lip blushing delivers a durable lip tint, allowing you to start your day fresh without additional color, balms, or gloss. Typically, the results of this procedure are long-lasting, lasting about two to three years.

Moving from traditional permanent makeup methods, lip blushing is designed to accentuate existing features with a more natural and understated aesthetic. Additional advantages of this procedure include enhanced lip pigmentation, the illusion of plumper lips without resorting to injections, and the ability to correct and balance the color of scarred areas.

What Does the Lip-Blushing Procedure Involve?
The lip-blushing procedure involves using a cosmetic tattoo device to deposit small amounts of organic pigment into the lips through precise needle configurations. A PMU artist uses quick, consistent hand motions and modern digital tools with low-setting needle configurations, eliminating the harshness often associated with traditional tattooing methods.

The artist uses tiny needles and a soft press technique during the procedure to layer the desired color pigment into the lips. The result is subtle and natural-looking, as the thin layers are slowly tinted over the lips. The more the pigment is layered, the denser and more vibrant the results will be. This process allows for various styles of lip blush, ranging from a soft natural color resembling a lip tint to a more dramatic, complete lipstick effect.

Does It Hurt?
Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the human body due to the presence of over a million nerve endings, making them even more sensitive than fingertips. However, despite this high sensitivity, people who have undergone lip-blushing procedures report that the experience is minimally painful. A topical numbing cream is often applied to the lips to help control bleeding and swelling and enhance comfort.

How Permanent Is It?
While everyone’s skin varies, the results of lip coloring can last between two to three years. But generally, darker lip-blushing colors tend to last longer. The retention of color is also influenced by factors such as lifestyle, health, and proper aftercare routine.

Using a lip balm with sunscreen can help protect the lips without causing dryness. Some colors can stay for as long as three years but slowly get lighter over time. Due to this, you might need to go back after about 18 months to restore your lips’ shade and shape.
